Karri Saarinen: There Is Someone Behind the Software
Original: Someone behind the software
Linear CEO Karri Saarinen has published an essay arguing that software is made by people, and that design and craftsmanship reflect the humans behind it. He pushes back on treating software as a commodity output of processes, saying the quality of a product comes from the taste, care and judgment of the team that builds it. Readers on Hacker News are debating how much of a product's quality is truly attributable to individuals versus company culture and constraints.
Why now: The essay is currently featured highly on Hacker News, sparking discussion about craftsmanship and the human role in software development.
