Scientists Map What Would Happen If Asteroid Apophis Hit Earth
Original: What If Asteroid Apophis Hit Earth? Scientists Mapped Where It Lands
New simulations are circulating about asteroid Apophis, the 340-metre space rock that will pass extremely close to Earth in 2029. Researchers have mapped hypothetical impact zones, showing the destruction that would occur if the asteroid were on a collision course instead of a near miss. The scenario highlights why planetary defence and asteroid tracking remain active fields of study.
Why now: Apophis's close 2029 flyby is renewing public fascination with what an actual impact would look like.
