Original: Putin proposes Trump-Xi summit
Vladimir Putin has proposed a summit between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, adding a new twist to diplomacy among the leaders of Russia, the United States and China. The suggestion is drawing attention as Washington and Beijing remain at odds over trade and Taiwan, and as Putin seeks to position Moscow as a broker between the two powers.
Why now: The proposal touches on the world's most consequential great-power relationships, all in flux over trade, Ukraine and security tensions.
