Original: Men’s Basketball Takes Down Northwestern 70-64 in Exhibition - Illinois State University Athletics
Illinois State University's men's basketball team defeated Northwestern 70-64 in an exhibition game. The Redbirds took down their Big Ten opponent on the road in a preseason tune-up, a result that offers an encouraging early signal for the program ahead of the regular season. Exhibition results do not count toward standings but often draw attention when a mid-major side beats a power-conference team.
Why now: A mid-major team beating a Big Ten opponent, even in a non-counting exhibition, is a notable upset that fuels preseason optimism.
