Casual contracts reshape New Zealand Cricket's player deals
Original: How casual contracts are helping New Zealand Cricket find a middle ground | Cricket
New Zealand Cricket is using casual contracts as a way to balance player commitments between domestic duties and franchise leagues. The arrangement gives players flexibility to take up overseas opportunities while remaining available for the national setup. The approach is being discussed as a possible middle path for smaller cricketing nations competing with lucrative global T20 leagues.
Why now: Growing tension between national boards and overseas T20 leagues has put flexible contracting models in the spotlight.
