Masked settlers armed with clubs attacked a delegation of European diplomats visiting the Christian village of Taybeh in the West Bank. Among those hit were Belgium's consul general, diplomats from France and Poland, and a French mayor. The incident came a day after a Washington Post photographer was injured, and has drawn attention to rising settler violence against visitors and Palestinians.
Why now: The assault on official EU diplomats in the occupied West Bank is an unprecedented escalation drawing strong international reaction.
