US tech giants warn Europe ditching them could cost €115 billion

A lobby group backed by Amazon, Google and Meta is warning European governments that reducing reliance on US technology would cost Europe around €115 billion. The warning effectively signals how much EU countries would need to budget to replace American cloud and tech services, and it is drawing attention as Europe debates digital sovereignty and whether to build its own infrastructure.
Why now: Ongoing European debate over digital sovereignty and reducing dependence on US cloud providers has put the claimed costs of that shift in the spotlight.
