Photographers taking part in the PhotOctober 2026 challenge are posting pictures of the moon over the Hill of Tara, the ancient mythical capital of Ireland in the country's midlands, known as the 'hill of the kings'. One contributor described the archaeological site as interesting though less striking than others in Ireland, editing images with the open-source Darktable software and tagging the work as made without AI.

Why now: The PhotOctober 2026 photography challenge is prompting participants to share themed moon photos, drawing attention to the symbolic Irish site.
