Alberta's Secession Vote Divides Canada

Original: alberta canada

Alberta is moving toward a vote on separating from Canada, a prospect that has opened a bitter divide within the province and across the country. The Wall Street Journal reports that secessionist sentiment in the western province is forcing Canadians to confront questions about national unity, regional grievances, and Alberta's relationship with Ottawa.

Why now: A credible push for secession in a major Canadian province is an unusual and consequential development for national unity.
