City Colleges of Chicago union deal averts faculty strike
Original: Faculty, staff union reaches agreement with City Colleges of Chicago, strike averted
The faculty and staff union representing City Colleges of Chicago has reached a tentative agreement with the college system, averting a planned strike. The deal ends negotiations that had raised the prospect of a work stoppage at Chicago's community colleges. Details of the contract terms, including pay and working conditions, have not yet been widely reported, and ratification by union members is expected as the next step.
Why now: A strike at a major urban college system would have disrupted classes, so the last-minute agreement is significant local news.
