Immich gains attention as open-source Google Photos alternative

Original: Mainstream cloud photo apps scan your library and lock your memories into their ecosystem. 📸 Immich is an open-source Go

Immich, a self-hosted open-source photo management app, is being promoted as a privacy-friendly alternative to mainstream cloud photo services. It offers native iOS and Android apps with automatic background backups, facial recognition, and AI-powered smart search, letting users keep full control of their photo libraries instead of relying on Google Photos or similar platforms.

Why now: Growing concern about privacy and vendor lock-in with mainstream cloud photo services is driving interest in self-hosted alternatives.
