Original: East Africa: New report exposes how transnational repression follows human rights defenders into exile
A new report by the International Federation for Human Rights documents how transnational repression in East Africa follows human rights defenders even after they flee into exile. It details how governments allegedly pursue activists abroad through surveillance, harassment and pressure on host states, raising concerns about the safety of dissidents across the region.
Why now: The release of a new report documenting cross-border targeting of exiled human rights defenders is drawing attention to government repression in East Africa.
