The European Space Agency's Hera spacecraft is preparing for a rendezvous with the asteroid Dimorphos, where NASA's DART probe deliberately crashed in 2022 in the first test of planetary defense. Hera will survey the impact crater and measure how the collision altered the asteroid's orbit, giving scientists their first close-up look at the aftermath of humanity's first asteroid deflection attempt.

Why now: The Hera mission is approaching Dimorphos, renewing interest in the results of the DART impact test.
