Ukraine's Starlink cutoff raises alarms in Canada
Original: Ukraine’s Starlink cutoff is a blinking red light for Canada
Ukraine has experienced a Starlink service cutoff, an event being framed as a warning sign for Canada. Commentators argue that Canada's reliance on foreign-owned satellite internet infrastructure, particularly SpaceX's Starlink in remote and northern regions, leaves it exposed to sudden decisions made outside its control. The episode is prompting calls for Canada to diversify its connectivity options and strengthen domestic satellite and telecommunications capacity.
Why now: Ukraine's sudden Starlink cutoff has made other countries, including Canada, worry about their dependence on SpaceX's satellite internet.
