EU methane rules face one-year delay amid environmental backlash
Original: "EU's methane rules face one-year delay, sparking environmental backlash" # EU # EuropeanUnion # Methane # Emissions htt
The European Union is delaying implementation of its methane emissions rules by one year, drawing criticism from environmental groups who say the postponement weakens climate commitments. The rules target methane leaks in the energy sector, one of the most potent greenhouse gases. Critics argue the delay undermines the bloc's credibility as a climate leader, while industry has welcomed the extra time to comply.
Why now: Environmental advocates and climate observers are reacting to the EU's decision to postpone methane regulations seen as key to its emissions goals.
