Florida issues arrest warrant for Raúl Castro
Original: raúl castro
Florida authorities have secured an arrest warrant for former Cuban leader Raúl Castro in connection with the 1996 shootdown of two Brothers to the Rescue aircraft, in which four Cuban-American pilots were killed by Cuban fighter jets. The move revives one of the most charged episodes in US-Cuba relations, and the story is drawing attention in the United States.
Why now: News that Florida has obtained an arrest warrant over the decades-old Brothers to the Rescue shootdown is fresh and politically charged.
