Paris riots spark debate over coverage of unrest in India
Original: #IndiaMatters | Burning cars, looted stores, torched buildings: Paris burns, India gets lectured
Riots in Paris have left cars burned, stores looted and buildings torched, drawing global attention to unrest in France. Commentators in India are contrasting the coverage with how violence in Indian cities is often portrayed, arguing foreign media and observers apply a harsher standard to India while framing French unrest more sympathetically.
Why now: Images of large-scale rioting in Paris have prompted Indian commentators to accuse Western media of double standards in covering urban violence.
