Original: China's homegrown satellite internet connects Arctic, Antarctic and Qinghai-Xizang Plateau
China's homegrown satellite internet service now covers the Arctic, the Antarctic and the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, according to Chinese state media. The announcement highlights the reach of the country's domestic satellite broadband network, which is designed to provide connectivity in remote regions where ground infrastructure is limited, from polar research stations to high-altitude areas.
Why now: The claim of near-global coverage, including both poles, underscores China's push for satellite internet independence, drawing attention amid competition in the space communications sector.
