Japan is launching its Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission today, sending a spacecraft to Phobos, the larger of Mars's two moons. The probe will land on Phobos, collect a sample of its surface material, and return it to Earth for analysis. Scientists hope the samples will reveal clues about the origin of Mars's moons and the early solar system.
