Putin reportedly seeks Yalta-style summit with Xi and Trump
Original: Putin wants summit with Xi, Trump to be redux of Yalta, which divided up world after WWII: report
According to a report, Vladimir Putin wants to hold a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump that would echo the 1945 Yalta Conference, where Allied leaders divided the world into spheres of influence after World War II. The report suggests Putin sees such a three-way meeting as a way to renegotiate global arrangements, though neither Washington nor Beijing has confirmed any interest in the idea.
Why now: The reported proposal evokes wartime great-power geopolitics amid ongoing debates over the future of Ukraine and the global order.
