German political hashtags tie Merz debate to US democracy fears

Original: # deutschland # bundesregierung # bundestag # politik # cdu # csu # spd # gruene # linke @Bundesregierung @bundestag @cd

German-language political discussion is drawing together the Bundestag's main parties — CDU, CSU, SPD, Greens and Left — around Chancellor Friedrich Merz and comparisons with Donald Trump's movement in the United States. Posts tagged with defend-democracy and anti-Trump slogans suggest critics are framing current government policy as part of a broader worry over democratic backsliding.

Why now: Critics of Chancellor Merz are linking German government policy to fears about Trump-era politics and the state of democracy.
