Fuse Energy's plug-in solar kit promises £180 savings, but isn't legal yet
Original: Fuse Energy’s new plug-in solar kit promises to save you £180 a year in electricity bills — but it's not legal yet
UK energy supplier Fuse Energy has unveiled a plug-in solar kit it says could cut household electricity bills by up to £180 a year. The catch: plug-in solar panels are not currently legal for grid connection in the UK, so the kit cannot be used as intended until regulations change. The announcement has drawn attention to the ongoing debate over whether Britain should follow other European countries in permitting simple, socket-connected solar systems.
Why now: The contradiction between the promised savings and the product's current illegality makes the story striking and highlights the regulatory debate over plug-in solar in the UK.
