Current Affairs essay says modern times worse than Idiocracy
Original: Our Times Make “Idiocracy” Look Like Utopia - currentaffairs.org/news/our-ti… # TradeRuinsEverything # capitalism # mone
Current Affairs has published an essay arguing that contemporary politics and culture make the satire film Idiocracy, which imagined a dumbened-down future America, look optimistic by comparison. The piece ties its critique to capitalism, trade and the Trump era, and readers sympathetic to that view are sharing it as a blunt commentary on the state of public life.
Why now: The essay's provocative comparison of present-day America to the satirical film resonates amid ongoing debates about Trump, capitalism and political decline.
