Group urges residents to keep leaves out of storm drains
Original: Group encourages people to keep leaves out of streets, storm drains
A local group is asking residents to keep fallen leaves out of streets and storm drains. The message comes as autumn leaf drop peaks, and the group says leaves washed into drains can clog stormwater systems and wash into waterways, harming water quality. People are being encouraged to compost or bag their leaves instead of raking them into the road.
Why now: It is autumn leaf season, when clogged storm drains and water pollution become a practical neighborhood concern.
