Pope names six new members to International Theological Commission

Original: comisión teológica internacional

Pope Francis has appointed five Latin Americans and one Spaniard to the International Theological Commission, the Vatican body that advises on doctrinal questions. The appointments expand Latin American representation in the commission, which is part of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. Catholic news outlets are reporting on the new members and what the regional balance may signal for the Church's theological priorities.

Why now: The Pope's appointment of a majority-Latin American group to a key Vatican doctrinal body is notable news for Catholic audiences.
