Claims Spread About Treatment of Gay People in Gaza
Original: Gays FIND OUT What Happens To Them In Gaza!
A widely shared item claims that gay people in Gaza face persecution, presenting this as something newly discovered. Human rights organisations have long documented that Hamas authorities in Gaza criminalise same-sex relations and that LGBT residents face serious risks there. The item's inflammatory framing has drawn strong reactions and debate online about LGBT rights in the territory.
Why now: Ongoing attention to Gaza and to LGBT rights in the region keeps claims like this circulating and sparking debate.
