Peter Jackson helps bring rare extinct moa egg home to New Zealand

Original: Peter Jackson Just Got an Ultra-Rare Extinct Moa Egg Back to New Zealand With the Help of De-Extinction Startup The Lord

Filmmaker Peter Jackson has helped return an ultra-rare extinct moa egg to New Zealand after a gallery in Colorado put the ancient specimen up for sale, working with a de-extinction startup on the acquisition. Fewer than 40 of the eggs are known to exist, making the repatriation a significant moment for New Zealand's natural heritage.

Why now: The Lord of the Rings director's involvement with a de-extinction startup in recovering an extinct species' rare egg is an unusual and high-profile story.
