China's domestic satellite internet reaches polar regions
Original: Domestic satellite internet links polar regions
China says its domestic satellite internet service has been extended to the polar regions, according to China Daily. The announcement means connectivity previously dependent on foreign systems can now reach Chinese expeditions and stations in the Arctic and Antarctic. Details on speeds, coverage and which satellites provide the polar links were not given in the reports, which carried the same short headline.
Why now: Beijing's growing satellite internet capability is drawing attention as an alternative to Western networks like Starlink in remote areas.
