Original: Space Force Stands Up Target Tracking Squadron to Operate New Sensing Satellites
The US Space Force has established a new target tracking squadron that will operate a new generation of sensing satellites designed to detect and follow threats such as hypersonic missiles. The unit is meant to consolidate tracking operations that previously sat with other commands, giving the Space Force direct responsibility for feeding targeting data to missile defense forces.
Why now: The creation of a dedicated satellite target-tracking unit signals an expansion of military space operations amid growing concern over missile threats.
