Rubio Visits Uzbekistan to Deepen US Ties With Central Asia
Original: Rubio Visits Uzbekistan to Deepen US Ties With Central Asia Amid Geopolitical Rivalry
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has travelled to Uzbekistan as part of an effort to strengthen Washington's relations with Central Asia. The trip signals growing American interest in a region long seen as within Russia's and China's orbit, and comes amid intensifying geopolitical rivalry over influence, trade routes and critical minerals.
Why now: Great-power competition over Central Asia is making high-level US engagement in the region newly newsworthy.
