Australian Federal MP Helen Haines was the target of an alleged attack, and police have arrested a man in connection with it. ABC News Verify reports the suspect had previously posted complimentary messages about Haines online, though his broader posting history reveals little about a motive. The case has drawn attention to threats and violence against Australian politicians.

Why now: The unusual detail that the arrested man had publicly complimented Haines contradicts assumptions about the attacker's motives, prompting public interest.
