MEPs push for expanded EU global budget
Original: Global Europe: MEPs push for expanded budget to match the EU’s global ambitions
Members of the European Parliament are calling for a larger Global Europe budget instrument, arguing that the EU's foreign policy ambitions require funding that matches its goals. The debate centres on whether the current budget is adequate for the bloc's diplomatic, development and geopolitical priorities. Supporters say stronger financing would let the EU act as a more credible global player, while the size of any increase remains under discussion.
Why now: Ongoing negotiations over the EU's long-term budget have put external spending priorities in the spotlight.
