Left-wing news site The Canary announces indefinite closure
Original: the guardian uk
The Canary, an independent left-wing news outlet founded in Glasgow, has announced it is closing indefinitely, with staff informing readers of the decision in a statement. The National reported the announcement, which comes as one more independent digital publisher in the UK ceases operations, prompting reactions about the pressures facing small, reader-funded news organisations.
Why now: The sudden closure of a well-known independent left-wing outlet has raised concerns about the financial viability of independent UK media.
