Bremen's Bovenschulte criticises Union over Left-AfD comparison

Original: andreas bovenschulte

Bremen's mayor Andreas Bovenschulte has publicly criticised Germany's centre-right Union parties for equating the Left party with the Alternative for Germany (AfD). He argued the comparison between the democratic left and the far-right AfD is inappropriate. The remarks have drawn attention in German political discussion, coming amid ongoing debates about how mainstream parties should position themselves toward both movements.

Why now: Ongoing German political debate about how the Union frames the Left and AfD has put the mayor's criticism in the spotlight.
