Alberta voters reject separation from Canada in referendum

Early results show Alberta voters have rejected separation from Canada, turning down a push for the oil-rich province to leave the country. The vote follows years of western alienation from Ottawa, particularly over energy and federal policy. The result is expected to ease federal concerns about Canadian unity, though separatist sentiment in Alberta may persist among supporters.
Why now: A referendum on whether a major Canadian province should leave Canada carries major implications for national unity, drawing wide attention.
