The rapturous, heartbreaking story of Elephant 6
NPR is featuring the story of the Elephant 6 Recording Company, the 1990s indie collective behind Neutral Milk Hotel, The Apples in Stereo and The Olivia Tremor Control. The piece traces the band of Georgia friends who built a lo-fi psychedelic music scene, its creative highs, and the losses and mental health struggles that later marked the group.
Why now: Renewed attention to the beloved indie collective, likely tied to fresh coverage or a retrospective about its history and members.
