Original: Five European Commissioners push back against cuts to the EU’s global cooperation budget
Five European Commissioners have pushed back against proposed cuts to the EU's global cooperation budget, according to Euronews. The joint resistance from within the Commission signals internal tension over the direction of EU external spending, with the commissioners arguing against reductions to programmes covering international partnerships and development cooperation. The dispute comes as the EU weighs budget priorities amid competing demands.
Why now: Internal division at the heart of the European Commission over the EU budget makes this politically significant news.
