EU signs association agreements with San Marino and Andorra
Original: EU signs association agreement with San Marino and Andorra. Šefčovič: “A political signal against fragmentation”
The European Union has signed association agreements with San Marino and Andorra, bringing the two microstates closer to the bloc. EU negotiator Maroš Šefčovič described the move as "a political signal against fragmentation", framing it as a commitment to European unity and closer ties with small states surrounded by the EU.
Why now: The EU formally deepening ties with two European microstates is being read as a symbolic statement of unity at a time of political fragmentation.
