Original: Miroslav Jenča, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia — Briefing to the UN Security Council on the Situation in Colombia
Miroslav Jenča, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative and head of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, briefed the UN Security Council on the situation in Colombia. The mission monitors implementation of the 2016 peace agreement, and such briefings typically cover progress on reintegrating former combatants, security in rural areas, and violence affecting communities. Council members generally respond with questions on the peace process and the mission's mandate going forward.
Why now: The Security Council regularly reviews Colombia's peace process, and periodic briefings from the UN mission draw attention to the state of implementation.
