Route du Rhum skippers get big public send-off in Saint-Malo

Original: route du rhum

The Route du Rhum transatlantic sailing race is drawing crowds in Saint-Malo, where skippers were presented to the public ahead of the start. One skipper described the mass turnout as energising, and the festival Art Explora and its museum ship have also stopped in the port. The race, running from Saint-Malo to Guadeloupe, remains a major event in French sailing.

Why now: The race's start period is generating heavy local and national interest in France.
