Report: Trump FBI Purge Ended Graham-Clyburn Bribery Probe
Original: How Trump’s FBI Purge Saved Lindsey Graham and James Clyburn From a Bribery Investigation
ProPublica reports that an FBI anti-corruption team opened an investigation into whether South Carolina's most powerful members of Congress, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democratic Congressman James Clyburn, were involved in a bribery scheme. According to the report, the inquiry was quietly abandoned after the Trump administration overhauled leadership at the FBI and Justice Department. The finding is drawing attention to claims that political purges derailed a major corruption case involving figures from both parties.
Why now: A major investigative report alleging political interference shut down a bribery probe into two of Congress's most powerful figures has just been published.
