Alberta Voters Reject Leaving Canada

Original: alberta

Voters in Alberta, Canada's oil-rich western province, have rejected a bid to leave Canada, dealing a setback to the secessionist movement. The result keeps the energy-producing province within the Canadian federation. The vote and its implications for national unity and Alberta's grievances with Ottawa are drawing attention internationally.

Why now: A secession vote in one of Canada's wealthiest provinces just failed, sparking debate about western alienation and national unity.
