EU approves extra €6.5 million for Africa CDC
Original: EU greenlights an extra €6.5M for Africa CDC
The European Union has approved an additional €6.5 million in funding for the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the continental public health agency based in Addis Ababa. The boost adds to existing EU support for Africa CDC's work on disease surveillance, outbreak response and health systems across the continent, and comes as international donors reassess global health financing priorities.
Why now: New EU funding for Africa's public health agency signals continued European support for continental health security at a time when donor budgets are under pressure.
