EU unveils new Arctic strategy with focus on security
The European Union has presented a new strategy for the Arctic that puts security at its centre. The move reflects growing concern among EU members over the region's geopolitical importance, as melting ice opens new shipping routes and rival powers increase their presence. Details of the strategy's specific measures were not immediately available, and reaction from Arctic states and other affected governments is still emerging.
Why now: Rising geopolitical tensions have made Arctic security a pressing EU policy concern.
