United Church's new general secretary envisions a church reimagined
Original: A school for how to love one another’: United Church’s new general secretary imagines a different future
The United Church of Canada's newly appointed general secretary is describing the denomination's future as 'a school for how to love one another', framing the institution less around structure and more around community and compassion. The remarks, published in Broadview Magazine, offer a vision of renewal as mainline Protestant churches face declining membership and search for a renewed purpose.
Why now: The appointment of a new general secretary has prompted reflection on the future direction of a mainline denomination at a time of institutional change.
