Ukraine raises alarm at U.N. over Russian recruitment of Cubans
Ukraine has formally raised concerns at the United Nations over Russia recruiting Cuban citizens to fight in its war. Kyiv argues that Havana's citizens are being drawn into the conflict as mercenaries, a claim Russia and Cuba have previously denied or downplayed. The dispute adds a new international dimension to the war and puts pressure on Cuba, a longtime Russian ally, over its citizens' involvement.
Why now: Ukraine's formal complaint at the United Nations is a new development in the ongoing diplomatic standoff over the war.
