Benin City's CCTV cameras sit unused, critic says
Original: All Quiet on the Western Front (Benin City Edition): The Great CCTV Ghost Town by Lawson Akhigbe Remember six months ago
A commentary by Lawson Akhigbe revisits the Edo State government's much-publicised rollout of CCTV surveillance in Benin City six months ago, arguing the cameras have become a 'ghost town' of unused equipment. The piece accuses authorities of launching the security scheme with fanfare and then failing to maintain or operationalise it, leaving residents without the promised protection.
Why now: Ongoing public frustration with the gap between the Edo State government's security promises and their delivery six months on.
