Trump Suggests Jail or Deportation for Rep. Omar
Original: Trump Suggests Jail or Deportation for Rep. Omar Amid Immigration Probe
President Donald Trump said Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota should be jailed or deported, comments that come as federal authorities reportedly review her immigration history. Trump has long targeted Omar, one of the first Somali-American women in Congress, over her citizenship and political stances. Supporters call the remarks a racist attack on a naturalized citizen, while some of Trump's allies back a full investigation into her naturalization file.
Why now: Trump's escalated personal attacks on Omar coincide with reports of an active immigration review, drawing fierce political reaction.
