India Launches Bid to Host 2036 Olympics
Original: INDIA BIDS FOR 2036 OLYMPICS, THE WHOLE WORLD BEGS THEM TO STOP
India has formally entered the race to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, a bid Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has long signalled as a showcase of the country's rise as a sporting and economic power. Ahmedabad has been floated as the likely host city. The prospective bid is drawing mockery online, with critics joking that the rest of the world wants India to drop its ambitions.
Why now: India's Olympic bid is a major sports and geopolitical story, and the mocking framing is fuelling viral debate about whether the country is ready to host.
