Original: abu dhabi

The Catholic community in Abu Dhabi has commemorated the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. Bishop Paolo Martinelli said the saint became a man of peace after experiencing the horrors of war, a message with particular resonance in the United Arab Emirates, where interfaith dialogue has been promoted through initiatives such as the 2019 document on Human Fraternity signed in Abu Dhabi.

Why now: The 800th anniversary of the saint's death is being marked with celebrations and reflections on his message of peace.
